571 Great Road, Littleton, MA
“Scratch Flat,” the land on which SpringDell Farm sits, is one of the oldest agricultural grounds in the Nashoba Valley. The farm has been family owned and operated since the 1700s. The land was originally a dairy farm and — like many of the farms in the area — an apple orchard.
In 1931, Greek immigrants James and Marea Theodoro purchased the farm at the height of the Great Depression. They set up a rough farmstand by placing a piece of plywood atop two milk crates and sold whatever fruits and vegetables they could. James' brother Tasso joined the farm in the mid-1940s, and the Theodoros built the white farmstand that still remains today.
Starting in 1981, James' granddaughter Paula assumed operation of the farm. Paula's daughter Jamie, who had long grown and sold zinnias on the farm, joined the farm after graduating high school in 2006. Today, the fourth and fifth generations of the family work together to maintain the farm and operate the roadside stand.
SpringDell Farms' farmstand specializes in beef, pork, lamb, berries, and hand-picked vegetables. Visitors can explore the “backyard” of the farm to see the animals and the work being done. The farm also operates a CSA program and occasional events like “BBQ Nights.”
